For a cruise call at Cabo Rojo, plan transport around your ship’s instructions and required return time. Confirm the meeting point, destination and both journeys before relying on a pickup. A CBJ airport transfer enquiry is not confirmation of cruise-port access or an available shore excursion. [1]
A cruise arrival is not a CBJ airport arrival
Cabo Rojo cruise port received its first cruise ship on 4 January 2024. The new airport is a separate development in Oviedo, Pedernales province; the Presidency’s September 2026 report targets February 2027 for operations, not a guaranteed flight date.
Pedernales town is another destination, not another name for the terminal. Tell the transport provider that you are arriving by ship and identify the port on your itinerary. Do not use an airport location as a substitute.
What to send before arranging pickup
Provide the ship and cruise line, port-call date, expected time you can leave the ship, required return time and the number of travellers. Include children’s ages for seat requests, luggage and any mobility or boarding assistance needs.
Ask for a specific meeting point, a contact method and confirmation of where the vehicle may collect you. Do not assume an independent driver can enter the terminal or wait beside the gangway. Terminal access must be confirmed for your visit.
Work backwards from the return deadline
Confirm the time you must be back aboard, rather than planning around the ship’s sailing time alone. Ask whether the instructions use ship time or local time; a phone clock should not decide your return deadline.
Allow for the return drive, agreed stops, possible delays and reboarding procedures before deciding how long to spend ashore. Ask the provider to assess the complete itinerary. There is no universal travel time or fixed buffer suitable for every cruise call.
Choose an outing that fits your time ashore
For Bahía de las Águilas, distinguish the road journey from the final access to the beach. If a boat is involved, its availability, boarding and weather conditions also matter. A road transfer does not automatically include the boat, park entry or a guided excursion.
A visit to Pedernales town is a different itinerary from a beach excursion. Agree on one realistic plan before adding stops. Do not decide that several destinations fit simply because they appear near each other on a map.

Confirm what the arrangements actually include
Request written confirmation of both journeys, passenger and luggage capacity, the meeting point, waiting terms, agreed stops and the total quoted price. Ask separately about child seats, accessible boarding and any boat or admission charge.
Check the cancellation and delay arrangements with the provider and your cruise line. Do not assume a privately arranged outing has the same return protection as a cruise-line excursion. This website does not confirm a cruise pickup, terminal permit or available vehicle merely by describing a destination.
Your final check before leaving the ship
Keep the return deadline, meeting instructions and provider’s contact details available offline. Reconfirm changes to the ship’s call or disembarkation arrangements before setting off. If the itinerary cannot be confirmed within your available time, choose a simpler plan.
For a ship-arrival request, contact the team with your cruise details instead of inventing a flight number in the airport form. Ask whether the requested arrangements can be provided. An enquiry remains an enquiry until the actual service and terms are confirmed.
Frequently asked questions
- Is the cruise port the same place as CBJ airport?
- No. Specify the cruise port on your itinerary. The new airport development is in Oviedo; an airport pickup arrangement should not be treated as a port pickup.
- Can my driver meet me beside the ship?
- Do not assume so. Ask where independent vehicles are permitted and obtain a meeting point confirmed for your visit before relying on that arrangement.
- How much time should I allow for Bahía de las Águilas?
- There is no single figure for every cruise call. Have the full road and final-access itinerary assessed against your ship’s return instructions before committing.
- Should I use a flight number for a cruise request?
- No. Provide the ship name, cruise line and port-call date through the contact page. Do not enter a fictitious flight to fit an airport enquiry.
