Group transfers for Cabo Rojo Airport (CBJ) — planned service

Once CBJ opens, groups of seven or more travelling together into Pedernales province will need more than a single SUV. This page sets out how we are planning to handle vans, minibuses and multi-vehicle convoys for that future service — nothing here is live yet.

Why groups need a different plan

A group of researchers heading to Jaragua National Park, a wedding party bound for a villa near Bahía de las Águilas, or a diving club aiming for the reefs off Cabo Rojo all share the same problem: more people than a single standard vehicle can carry comfortably, plus more luggage than the seat count suggests. The plan is to size the vehicle to the group rather than stack people into one van, drawing on the same vehicle classes described on the vehicles page.

Because the south-west's road network runs through Barahona and along the coastal highway rather than a dense urban grid, a group transfer here is also a longer, single continuous drive rather than a series of short hotel-strip hops — planning for comfort on that drive matters as much as seat count.

  • Standard SUV/minivan expected for smaller parties
  • Passenger vans or minibuses planned for larger groups
  • Multiple vehicles dispatched together for a party arriving as one
  • Oversized gear — dive equipment, research kit, instruments — noted in advance so the right vehicle class is planned

Groups arriving on different flights

Once CBJ has confirmed scheduled service, we expect the same pattern seen at every airport: not everyone in a group lands on the same flight. The plan is to coordinate pickups by flight rather than force an early arrival to wait for a later one, all managed through a single point of contact for the group organiser.

Weddings, research teams and dive or hiking groups

Pedernales province draws a specific mix of group travel: destination weddings near the coast, biological and conservation research teams working in Jaragua or Sierra de Bahoruco, and organised hiking or diving groups. Each has different needs — a wedding group wants one welcome point and minimal fuss, a research team often has scientific equipment that needs its own vehicle space. Tell us the group's purpose and size when you register interest, and we will plan the vehicle mix accordingly.

Return legs for a group

The return journey to CBJ for departure is expected to need the same coordination as arrival, plus a realistic buffer for the drive back from wherever the group has been staying — Barahona, Pedernales town, or a villa near the coast. Once official schedules exist we will publish planning guidance for departure timing; today we can only say that a longer buffer than a short airport hop is sensible for this region.

Frequently asked

Is group transfer booking open now?
Not yet. CBJ has not opened. You can register interest with your group size, purpose and expected dates, and we will contact you once official rates and schedules exist.
What is the largest group you plan to handle?
There is no fixed ceiling in the plan. Larger parties are expected to be handled with multiple vehicles dispatched together rather than one oversized vehicle.
Can you carry diving or research equipment?
That is part of the plan — tell us about oversized or specialist gear when you register interest so we can plan the right vehicle class in advance.
Will a group land on different flights be coordinated as one pickup?
That is the intent: one point of contact for the group, with vehicles matched to each arriving flight once CBJ has scheduled service.
How is a group transfer priced?
We cannot say yet. No rates exist until CBJ's opening and terminal access are officially confirmed; published pricing will follow that confirmation.
